Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are the core values that define who we are through advocacy, partnerships, and connections fostered within our affiliated companies and outside the industry. We strive to promote, educate, and champion practices that advance homeownership & affordable housing for the systemically disenfranchised.

Our community involvement efforts began in 2022 to help all our neighbors find a home. Homeownership enables people to build wealth and security in the future. We work hard to help all of our neighbors achieve their dreams of homeownership. We began our efforts in 2022, reflecting the concerns of our current and evolving communities. Every member of our community faces unique challenges on their road to homeownership, and we are here to support them.
Richard Grimes from RealtySouth said that homeownership is an important and rewarding experience. They are committed to serving all members of the communities they operate in, and this will take many years to complete. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices of America is also involved with this effort and has long-term plans for their agents.
Our Belonging Council has been working with our African American, Latino, LGBTQ+, and other ethnic minority groups to provide education and resources that empower people to become homeowners. Here you’ll find agents who represent each of these communities themselves, committed to walking with you every step of the way. Let’s find a home together!
“As the largest real estate company in the state of Alabama, we felt it was important to create a group that was focused on diversity, equity and inclusion to support minorities who might feel excluded or unwelcome.
I feel like it’s important for anyone, no matter their sexual orientation, gender, national origin or anything else to feel like there’s a place for them within the company.
And, it’s important for us as a company to stand up for what’s right and show that we protect our people and the people we serve.”
Scott Wells Ford, Realtor, RealtySouth

Members of the LGBTQ+ community are 16% less likely to be homeowners than straight Americans, according to a 2020 Freddie Mac study. Federal Fair Housing Laws prohibit housing and housing-related discrimination because of sex, including gender identity and sexual orientation. We know discrimination, harassment, and intolerance can all be roadblocks on the path to finding your dream home. No matter what questions or concerns you might have about the road to homeownership, we’re here to help.
“At RealtySouth, we can educate all people about what it means to own real estate and how they can improve their generational wealth. We can reduce the minority generational wealth gap through education, exposure, and by removing perceived or actual obstacles through the Belonging Council.”
